Climb, always climb. You may think that machineguns and cannons are your weapons but your best weapon is altitude, it is like a currency it can be tradede away for speed to quickly run away from a bad spot (Enemies behind you) or to catch up to a bandit lower then you. It also provides safty, if you are sure to be the highest you can never be attacked from behind or above, and anyone attacking you from below will die because of their lower speed and reduced ability to manvure.
Always be the highest and you can decide when to attack to your advantage.
Another thing, Ammo is gold never waste ammo by firing 4-8 secunds salvo's. Always keep it down to 1 or 2 sec salvos, reaim ether lower, higher or to the sides if needed after each salvo, if you hit fire again for 1-2 sec

Flying low or lawnmowing as its commonly called gets you killed. if i am low for some reason and there is a plane above that is ready to zoom on me i make a very fast turn to the direction he is diving at me from. if the player with the height advantage is experienced and patient it is just a matter of time before you are killed.

Indeed, if you are lowest and getting dived upon the only thing you can do is turn and make his attack angles invalid all the time and hope that he instead of Zoom'ing away starts turning with you and wastes all his energy
But is, if he is patiant, it is just a matter of time = ( So fly with a wingman! ;P
