Some pilots are great at staying on the ground and shooting. I've tried it, but it's tricky because you have to keep moving. How do they keep from crashing or taking off while being able to shoot into the sky so well?

it's pretty easy actually...
once you start the engine you can shoot so just use the mouse to aim; if you don't want to take off hit the brakes (letter S) from time to time. as for not crashing that's only a matter of practice and attention.
of course, having a good pc and connection helps a lot.

The mouse, hmmm... I'll have to play around with it the next time I'm able. I always use the keyboard alone to fly because I can be more precise about my maneuvers. In fact, I usually turn off mouse controls. Since I want to be on the throttle (w) from the initial spawn, my plane does some crazy stuff as I click to clear that initial help screen. I hate that. I wish I could turn off that help screen. Anyway thanks for the tip.

Thanks to the existence of dogfightsquadron.co.uk/ I was able to give the mouse control another try. (On training mission, of course, since no one else was on.) I have to respectfully disagree. Mouse control is WAAAAYYYY too sloppy and slow. Do you use some combination of KB and mouse or just mouse only?

I use only the mouse even in ground fights. for me it's a real pain to aim using the keyboard as the plane turns too much every time, while with the mouse I simply put it over the target and the plane flies straight to it. true, in close combats many times it happens to get the mouse out of the game area but since I have only triple wings doesn't matter much when fighting against fully upgraded planes

The possibility of doing a sharper turn is precisely one of the reasons I prefer the KB. Maybe I'll try on my triple wings next time to get your perspective of things. It's been a while.

mouse control is enough to turn on an island near the hanger area and use the mouse to aim while shooting. You can make figure of eight turns on coconut very easily with the mouse
( of course keep nose down or you'll take off )
