when two equally matched planes have a head on dogfight or a ram much of the time both planes will die resulting in a repair bill sometimes a very big one and you do not get a kill for it. This is generally considered a noob tactic in most situations. a ram in this situation should only be used for chance encounters where a ead on is really unavoidable.
You have probably seen the comments in the chat, You noob you F****ng rammer learn to fly etc. In fact these comments really really annoy me because the person who claims to have been rammed is just as guilty as the other guy. if you attack aircraft with the intention on boom and zoom or to stick on the tail and turn fight ect then you will very rarely be in a situation where you would need to ram. also the bad language is not necessary and also useless because the other guy has probably left the game already. i heard one guy say, "third time in a row someone has rammed me". ...
however if your plane is badly damaged then a ram becomes a good option because this will increase the chances of you getting an airkill and staying alive long enough to repair. another good use of the ram technique is when a much superior plane like a beaufighter was to ram something like a swordfish ( swordfish has no cannon and a very slow machine gun that fires rice)

Also, if a headon is unavoidable - You can fire from a distance for 1km a short burst and then roll to ether side or downwards, just slightly so you dont ram eachother. This will cause the other plane to overshoot you (Because of your dive) and you might have hit him, but the most important thing is that you live to fight another day.
